A partial eclipse of the Sun occurred on Wednesday 1 June, 2011 UT, lasting from 19:25–23:06 UT. A moderate partial eclipse, with 60% of the Sun covered for viewers closest to the center, created an interesting spectacle for observers in northern Canada and eastern Russia.

The timings of the phases of the overall eclipse worldwide are as follows. In any particular place it would have been seen for a significantly shorter duration as the shadow moved across the Earth:

During this eclipse the Sun was 0.526° in apparent diameter, 1.4% smaller than average. The Moon was 5 days after apogee and 10 days before perigee. At maximum eclipse it was 0.507° in apparent diameter, which is 4.5% smaller than average. This has no real effect on this eclipse, since the Moon's central shadow misses the Earth, making this a partial eclipse.
