The preventer/vang I don't have a normal vang (boom downhaul), which would normally run from the boom to the base of the mast, because the dinghy is in the way. Instead, each time I tack I rig a tackle from the bail on the boom down to either the port or starboard chainplates -- it's not nearly as much hassle as it sounds. The big rope thing is a crown sinnet made of nylon, to act as a shock absorber. Sailing to Pillar Point
