Exhibit of shell loaders at work in the magazine at Fort St. Catherine. Extraordinary measures were taken to prevent any sparks, such as all the workers having working clothes kept completely separate from their outdoor clothes. Stepping over the entrance barrier while wearing magazine shoes was a serious offence, as any outside grit caught in the sole could cause a spark, and blow up the entire fort.
