A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurred on 28 August, 1170 UT Old Style, with maximum eclipse at 06:46 UT. In this extremely marginal eclipse, the Moon barely clipped the edge of the Earth's penumbral shadow. This caused a microscopic darkening of just 18% of the Moon's disc for 2 hours and 11 minutes, which was essentially impossible to see.

The penumbral eclipse lasted for 2 hours and 11 minutes. Maximum eclipse was at 06:46:52 UT.

During this eclipse the Moon was just 2 days before apogee, making it very small. At maximum eclipse it was 0.499° in apparent diameter, which is 6.0% smaller than average. The statistics page has information on the ranges of the sizes of the Sun and Moon.
