A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurred on 1 August, 0188 BC UT Old Style, with maximum eclipse at 19:49 UT. The Moon approached within 1% of the Earth's umbral shadow at maximum eclipse; 100% of the Moon's disc was partially shaded by the Earth, with the overall eclipse lasting 4 hours and 21 minutes. While less dramatic than a partial eclipse (as no part of the Moon was in complete shadow), a shading across the Moon should have been readily visible to observers.
The penumbral eclipse lasted for 4 hours and 21 minutes. Maximum eclipse was at 19:49:50 UT.
