A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurred on 16 January, 1779 BC UT Old Style, with maximum eclipse at 16:52 UT. This very subtle penumbral eclipse was essentially invisible to the naked eye; though it lasted 2 hours and 54 minutes, just 45% of the Moon's disc was in partial shadow (with no part of it in complete shadow).

The penumbral eclipse lasted for 2 hours and 54 minutes. Maximum eclipse was at 16:52:41 UT.
