Accuracy

Due to the erratic rotation of the Earth, the time and location of the eclipse cannot be forecast perfectly. This eclipse's time is estimated to be accurate ± 4m43s (with 95% confidence). This equates to an error in longitude of ± 1.18 degrees, or around ± 119 km (74 miles) at the latitude of greatest eclipse.

A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurred on 28 December, 0475 UT Old Style, with maximum eclipse at 09:32 UT. In this extremely marginal eclipse, the Moon barely clipped the edge of the Earth's penumbral shadow. This caused a microscopic darkening of just 3% of the Moon's disc for 51 minutes and 54 seconds, which was essentially impossible to see.

The penumbral eclipse lasted for 51 minutes and 54 seconds. Maximum eclipse was at 09:32:27 UT.
