Accuracy

Due to the erratic rotation of the Earth, the time and location of the eclipse cannot be forecast perfectly. This eclipse's time is estimated to be accurate ± 23m38s (with 95% confidence). This equates to an error in longitude of ± 5 degrees, or around ± 653 km (406 miles) at the latitude of greatest eclipse.

A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurs on Tuesday 2 September, 2555 UT, with maximum eclipse at 15:17 UT. In this extremely marginal eclipse, the Moon barely clips the edge of the Earth's penumbral shadow. This will cause a microscopic darkening of just 6% of the Moon's disc for 1 hour and 6 minutes, which will be essentially impossible to see.

The penumbral eclipse lasts for 1 hour and 6 minutes. Maximum eclipse is at 15:17:30 UT.
