Accuracy

Due to the erratic rotation of the Earth, the time and location of the eclipse cannot be forecast perfectly. This eclipse's time is estimated to be accurate ± 29m21s (with 95% confidence). This equates to an error in longitude of ± 7 degrees, or around ± 740 km (460 miles) at the latitude of greatest eclipse.

A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurs on Wednesday 16 December, 2635 UT, with maximum eclipse at 01:41 UT. In this extremely marginal eclipse, the Moon barely clips the edge of the Earth's penumbral shadow. This will cause a microscopic darkening of just 1% of the Moon's disc for 28 minutes and 6 seconds, which will be essentially impossible to see.

The penumbral eclipse lasts for 28 minutes and 6 seconds. Maximum eclipse is at 01:41:34 UT.
