A penumbral eclipse of the Moon occurred on 17 December, 1704 BC UT Old Style, with maximum eclipse at 22:31 UT. In this extremely marginal eclipse, the Moon barely clipped the edge of the Earth's penumbral shadow. This caused a microscopic darkening of just 2% of the Moon's disc for 38 minutes and 30 seconds, which was essentially impossible to see.

The penumbral eclipse lasted for 38 minutes and 30 seconds. Maximum eclipse was at 22:31:35 UT.
