How much disk space do I need for my project? How much time is it going to take to copy and upload it?

These questions come up very often online; but unfortunately the answer is more complicated than you might like. So here's a calculator, where you can enter the parameters of your movie project, and see the effect they have.

The idea of the calculator is to try out various what-if scenarios. Like, how much space will I need if I shoot RAW? What if I edit on proxies instead of the rushes? What will it cost to keep more backups?

So try entering different parameters, and experiment. When you have a scenario you like, you can print it with your browser's print function. Don't take the results here too literally — apart from anything else, it will be almost impossible to anticipate how many hours of rushes you will shoot — but hopefully this calculator can give you a feel for what the efects of different choices will be.

But always, allow a margin for error — and in moviemaking, that should be a very big margin.
